Senator Rashaun Kemp proudly represents Georgia’s 38th Senate District, a Fulton County seat that includes portions of Atlanta, Sandy Springs, the City of South Fulton, Fairburn, East Point, Union City, Palmetto, and Chattahoochee Hills. In his very first legislative session, Senator Kemp delivered results by passing his first bill, Senate Bill 93, a bipartisan measure signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp. SB 93 addresses Georgia’s literacy crisis—where nearly 70% of children are not reading on grade level—by ensuring all Georgia teachers are properly trained in evidence-based reading instruction.
Senator Kemp serves as Senior Director at a national nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of Black and Brown public charter school leaders. He previously led a national nonprofit as its first Executive Director. His distinguished professional career includes leadership at a state education department, service as a Government Affairs professional, and roles as a high school teacher and principal—becoming a school leader at just 27 years old.
A dedicated public servant and community leader, Senator Kemp previously chaired Neighborhood Planning Unit K and is an alumnus of New Leaders Council Atlanta. He has served on the boards of Lillies Foundation, Ivy Preparatory Academy for Girls, and Georgia Equality. He regularly volunteers in his community through food distribution in Douglas County and community cleanups in Fulton County. Senator Kemp is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
A resident of Atlanta for over a decade, Senator Kemp is happily married to Ken Kemp, a middle school counselor and administrator in East Point. Together, they are the proud parents of Brooklyn, age 3, and Jaden, a 21-year-old senior at Tennessee State University. The Kemp family attends Impact United Methodist Church and cherishes spending time with loved ones in Dublin, Georgia, and Columbus, Ohio. In his free time, Senator Kemp enjoys staying engaged in politics, traveling, watching football, and playing tennis.
